Hy-Vee

Hy-Vee is a Midwest grocery store with a quick service restaurant, Market Grille. As an employee-owned business, store managers were accustomed to a high level of independent decision-making, especially when it came to their uniforms. When the company decided to implement an employee-wide uniform update, it was important that they picked a uniform partner that would address the change delicately.

Program Needs

Consistent brand representation across all stores

Hy-Vee determined that having a consistent brand representation between all store locations would help their company continue on the path of success. So, we needed to create and distribute uniforms for more than 80,000 employees.

Beyond designing, sourcing, and distributing the apparel for both their grocery stores and their quick-service restaurants, we were tasked with forecasting the necessary quantities for their first-ever uniform program. Lastly, with some resistance to change from the managing staff, we had some hearts to win over.

Our Solution

Excellence in execution

To get started, we worked hand-in-hand with Hy-Vee to design comfortable and durable uniforms in styles that employees were proud to wear. Beyond ensuring the outfits were right for the job, this process sparked excitement amongst the managing staff and employees. Once final designs were selected, we combined our industry experience with Hy-Vee’s employee data to predict and initiate production for the rollout.

With such a large company-wide change, we offered to help create a communication plan. The plan included dress codes, webinars on ordering, and more. As a team, Hy-Vee and Threads Uniform Agency delivered over 300,000 apparel items to 240 stores across three regions. And, we did it all within eight weeks and with an accuracy rate of 99.3%. Every employee was happily outfitted in a new uniform, right on time.
